COALMONT COKE OVENS

WEST HIGHWAY 56, COALMONT

COALMONT WAS DEVELOPED IN 1904 BY THE SEWANNEE COAL, COKE AND LAND CO. THE OVENS WERE BUILT AT THIS TIME, AND THEY OPERATED UNTIL THE 1940s WHEN THEY WERE ABANDONED. THE MINES AND OVENS WERE OPERATED BY THE SEWANEE CO. UNTIL 1939 WHEN THEY SOLD THEM.
